Back in 2008 Iran approached Nokia Siemens Networks to help update it’s communications infrastructure. One of the requests was to install the ability to monitor internet traffic and determine it’s source. What better tool to give a government with a long history of human rights abuse. The ability to determine the source alone is a major deterrent to any reporters or protesters within the country.
